Tribute to Chocolate the Brave

Chocolate the Brave

This is the tale of Chocolate the Brave

‘Bout his might they all would rave

Armed with a majestic chocolate coat

Adorning a well built, furry frame

With bushy tail and golden paw

Whence he stepped, he conquered, he came

A puppy, bright blue eyes explored

Around him a world, sunny and bright

Cheerful, the world his oyster

A whimper ‘round him the world would light

This is the tale of Chocolate the Brave

‘Bout his might they all would rave

Youth, fierce and tenacious

The Scourge of dogs and domestic help

Leading his pack into glorious conquest

All who challenged he would but welp

An empire he constructed

And undoubtedly, the emperor he

Conquered a territory perhaps

Of extent no one did foresee.

This is the tale of Chocolate the Brave

‘Bout his might they all would rave

Yet alone, our brave prince could not

Hope to keep this world his own

Thus, came his Queen – beautiful and wise

And together their lands they would roam.

Yet all was not rosy for our King

For like all tales, had too this tale

A baddie, a miscreant, a villain

No, he said, the king I shan’t hail.

A dark coat, a face with nary a smile

A tail unwagged, and tread slow

Oh, throughout our villain and king

Would strike one another many a blow.

And once, a careless motor car

Trampled the foot of our king so strong

But limp or not, Chocolate the Brave

Would wag his tail, oh all along.

This is the tale of Chocolate the Brave

‘Bout his might they all would rave

The years go by, and one fine day

The heavens, for his Queen sent

And in loneliness and desolation

The days of our fine king went.

But ever the fighter, never to give up

The king and his daughter, this team

Would once again roam the land

And not let fall this old regime.

This is the tale of Chocolate the Brave

‘Bout his might they all would rave

Yet the universal forces of time

Stop for no one, nay the king

And so, this era would come to wane

A song creakier hinges would sing.

Soon the borders, they begin to shrink

But an unlikely ally the king soon found

The once fierce villain, who too grew old

Would help the king his way around.

An unlikely alliance, marred with skirmish

And our king, he settled for second place

His voice meeker but the tenacity unchanged

He still strode with pride and grace.

This is the tale of Chocolate the Brave

‘Bout his might they all would rave

Alas, the villain, he grew too weak

And left the king for his new abode

At last the king, he accepted the fate

That his great empire would now erode.

Through wagging tongues, the villain’s doom

Was heard of by all, far and near

“Is it true, is he now weak,

The king we once used to fear?”

So, set off a company of villains

To end the king, they much so hate

At night they struck; the king escaped

But tired, injured, it was too late.

But a warrior forever, the brave king

Nay go down without a fight

And fought he did, till breath his last

Against the dying of the light.

This is the tale of Chocolate the Brave

‘Bout his might they all would rave

Ask you may, who am I

To tell the tale of Chocolate the Brave

Just a boy, a poet, a friend

A friend of whom they used to rave.

Together we ran, we ate, we sang

Together we shared our hopes and joy

And to tell you the truth, prepared am not

To live without my Chocolate boy.

But in life and death, the king

Has endowed a lesson for life

Live to the fullest, live with pride

And never give up without a strife.

This is the tale of Chocolate the Brave

‘Bout his might they all would rave

In loving memory of Chocolate the Brave.

 We miss you Chocolate.....

Decoding JEE with Soumil Aggarwal (AIR-33 JEE Advanced)

Recently, I caught up with Soumil Aggarwal - an achiever who continued his excellence in competitive exams by securing AIR 33 in the JEE (Advanced) 2020. Besides this, he has also secured AIR 258 in the JEE (Main) 2020, and also won honourable mention at the International Mathematical Olympiad 2019 held at Bath, UK. Soumil completed his JEE preparation with a four-year classroom program at FIITJEE South Delhi. We tried to decode his JEE preparation strategy and understand the story behind his success. (With inputs from Aditya Singh)

Sport & the Allure of the Comeback

Sport & the Allure of the Comeback  Make no mistake about it, the immediate motivation behind writing this piece was the recent masterpiece of an innings handcrafted by the king of his craft, Virat Kohli. It was an innings forged in the most intense of flames - those of pressure and scrutiny, under which many before him have crumbled. In a match against Pakistan, where emotions always ride high, this innings was nothing short of an experience. It is hard to do justice to it with mere words.  And yet, as this experience unfolded and culminated in that sweet, sweet way, I wondered - why this innings ? I cast my mind back to around six years ago. The same player, yet there he was, knocking off centuries every other match and whipping chases akin to this one over midwicket for fun. It was great to watch, sure. Yet, what was it that made me only stupefied back then, and yet emotional and moved today?  It brings to the fore for me, one of the most alluring, and perhaps mo...

5 Things Which Defined My JEE Journey

A fundamental question I thought about before writing this post was – “What will someone take away with them after reading this?” It is a tricky question, because there are hundreds, if not thousands of similar posts, scattered across blogs, QnA sites and YouTube channels. Each gives in complete detail which books to use, how many hours to put in, what is considered ‘enough’ for JEE. There are also people who have secured a better rank than me, and whose inputs are perhaps a bit more valuable than mine. So, I decided to focus a bit more on what made my JEE journey unique – in this post, I will highlight the five things I felt stand out the most out of the last two (and a half, thanks to COVID!) years of my life, and had the most impact on my preparation as well as me as a person. Here goes! 1. Overcoming Tricky Beginnings I took admission into FIITJEE South Delhi’s integrated school program in class 11 th . Ultimately it turned out to be a good decision because it helped me cut a ...
